The OIKIA Project

Completed project

The OIKIA project was the initiative of a Christian missionary, to provide care and attention to street children. The number of children who roam the streets, especially in the outskirts, who spend the night in the sewers, and who deal in drugs is huge.

The OIKIA project aims to do its part to help resolve this serious social problem.

Its objectives are: to take in and house street children and youths for a limited period of time; to offer a bed, food, cleanliness and primary healthcare; to initiate training for various activities, appropriate for their age, through job, leisure-cultural and sports workshops; to inform them of the physical and psychological harm that frequent or habitual consumption of alcohol and or drugs does; and to increase their self-esteem, and motivate them sufficiently for further rehabilitation at other specialised training and rehabilitating homes.
